Hillary Goes After Obama on Trust

From the Loewe Political Report,

What Obama has to do to Lose the Nomination

At my new blog, Loewe Political Report, I argue that, at this point, the race is much more Obama's to lose than Clinton's to win, and then outline and explain a number of things, many if not most of which would have to happen for Obama to lose the race.  I'll post the excerpt here.  Please head to the Loewe Political Report to read the rest and to read other posts, including, "What Virginia Tells us About Texas and Ohio."

Why Obama is Closer to the Nomination Than You Think

Yesterday marked the first day of my blog:  Loewe Political Report.

It was a great first day to be sure.

We've already been featured on Ben Smith at the Politico and by Noam Scheiber at The New Republic.

The goal of the blog is to give comprehensive insight into the 2008 race, with commentary on where the race stands and where we can expect it to go.  About me:  I used to be the Executive Director of Ballotground, a multi-state ballot initiative campaign that's aim was to place anti-war ballot initiatives on 2008 battleground state ballots.  The hope was that we could drive Democratic turnout.  Unfortunately, the money dried up by January, and I'm now back in graduate school, where I'm getting a Master's in Public Policy from Harvard's Kennedy School and a law degree from Columbia Law School.

Unmarried Women and the Iraq War

Yesterday, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research released a polling memo discussing the importance of unmarried women to the 2008 election.  Unmarried women overwhelmingly want change, strongly oppose the Iraq war, and support troop withdrawal.  Previous research by the polling firm suggests that they can be motivated to vote by a ballot initiative.  And though 20 million unmarried women failed to vote in 2004, the group is poised to vote in record numbers in 2008 if they can be effectively mobilized.

Here are some excerpts from the GQQR Memo, "A New America: Unmarrieds Drive Political and Social Change."

Putting the War on the Ballot

Despite overwhelming evidence that our presence in the Iraqi Civil War has been a failure, despite an ever-increasing body count and a $10 billion monthly price-tag, we are faced with a hard truth. There will likely be more than 100,000 American soldiers in Iraq on Election Day. Despite the extensive and persistent efforts of the anti-war movement, we have still failed to gather the votes we need to end this intractable conflict. Over the next year, we must increase the pressure on policymakers who continue to ignore the will of the American people. We can do this by looking toward Election Day itself, which may be our best chance for a new direction - a direction home.

It was with that belief in mind that Ballotground was created, and why we're moving forward today. Ballotground is an organization dedicated to placing anti-war initiatives on the ballots of 2008 battleground states: Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, Missouri, and Oregon. We will put into words the voice of two-thirds of the American people, present it clearly and concisely on the ballot, and in doing so, quite literally turn the 2008 election into a referendum on Iraq.
